Alzheimer's Patients Talk about Enjoying Life
(Source: San Francisco Chronicle) - An Alzheimer's diagnosis isn't the end of the world - it doesn't even mean the end of an active, demanding and happy life. That was obvious at an Alzheimer's Association meeting in Oakland, CA, Saturday, where about 100 people in the early stages of the disease shared stories of daily frustrations and joys.


Memantine Reduces AD Decline
(Source: NCBI) - In a study investigating the effects of Memantine for persons with Alzheimer's disease, researchers at the Moorgreen Hospital in Southampton, UK, report: >"In this population of moderate and severe AD patients, treatment with memantine was associated with reducing worsening of clinical symptoms in AD during the 6-month study period."


Changes in the Brain Predict Conversion from MCI to AD
(Source: NCBI) - Researchers in Saitama, Japan, report that losses of gray matter in the entorhinal and hippocampal areas of the brain offers a prediction of conversion from Mild Cognitive Impairment to Alzheimer's disease. The presence of hypometabolism or hypoperfusion in parietal association areas and entorhinal atrophy at the MCI stage may predict a rapid conversion to AD.


Alzheimer's Treatment Offers Return to Normalcy
(Source: OC Register) - In 2002 Marvin Sando was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Five years later, the 76-year-old man, who should be having trouble with many daily activities, isn't. In fact he is almost symptom-free.
